I was first introduced to the work of Linda Retter alias ROE in the sultry summer of 2016 at the Creepy Teepee festival in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic. And it was not so much a paper meeting, but rather a textile one. These two industries have always been closely connected. In the case of ROE, however, it is not about any rag work, but about the transfer of material characteristics between each other. The artist-designed paper cut-outs, alongside the illustrations, are the basic patterns on which she bases her work with textiles. However, she also works with ceramics and notebooks, using the same pattern principles.

ROE is a unique artist on the edge of childlike playfulness that never slips into kitsch.
